Park Master Plan – City of Three Rivers

The City of Three Rivers is located in rural St. Joseph County in southwest Michigan. Three rivers flow together in the heart of the downtown in the city’s most utilized park, Scidmore Park. The three rivers are the Rocky River, the Portage River and the St. Joseph River. The City of Three Rivers is approximately 20 miles south of the City of Kalamazoo, the largest nearby urban center. It is 12 miles north of the Indiana State line and is within a two hour drive of Chicago and Detroit. The incorporated City limits encompass approximately 5.8 square miles. This recreation plan only addresses property located within the city limits. The plan was developed for the City addressing City-owned property with an emphasis on property acquisition and trails and trail development by reference to a Trail Survey previously conducted by Fleis & Vandenbrink Engineering and funded by the Three Rivers Foundation. Trails were noted to be a continued priority through a 2015 visioning session that included input from the 3 surrounding townships, Lockport, Fabius, and Park.
